DISCO 1
- The Film in pan & scan [ES UN PAN & SCAN DE LA VERSION WIDESCREEN, NO LA VERSION ORIGINALMENTE DISEÑADA 4:3 (ACADEMY RATIO) QUE EXISTIA EN EL DVD ORIGINAL ZONA 4 Y QUE EN ZONA 1 NO SE CONSIGUE DIRECTAMENTE]
Yes, you heard it right: there is no Academy format version on this release either. In its place is a 4x3 pan and scan transfer, which is confirmed to have been sourced from the CinemaScope version of the film rather than the differently framed Academy version. This is most disappointing, and leads me to question who on earth thought it would be a good idea to include a pan and scan transfer on a DVD designed for serious collectors.
General notes about the alternate 4:3-version: The film was made simultaneously in both a widescreen "CinemaScope version (2.55:1)" and a standard "Academy ratio version (4:3)". At this point it seems however, that the 4:3-version on the R1-disc is not the "original Academy version", but rather a pan&scan -version created from the new 2.55:1 print. Please see more info and some screenshots from UltimateDisney.com
- Disc 2 Preview (1:00)
- Bonus Trailers
- Soundtrack(s): English Dolby Digital 3.0 (PISTA DE AUDIO ORIGINAL DE CINES)
The Region 1 release gains a much-appreciated Dolby Digital 3.0 track, replicating the multi-channel audio presentation that accompanied the film's CinemaScope theatrical release. The mono track which would have accompanied the Academy version is nowhere to be found, but since a transfer of the Academy version is not present either, this is perhaps not surprising. In any event, I can live without it.

COMPARACION GRAFICA: Lady and the Tramp
Region 1 (USA) Limited Issue - Buena Vista
vs. Region 1 (USA) Platinum Edition - Buena Vista
vs. Region 2 (UK) Special Edition - Buena Vista WINNER
Either way, the US transfer is a slightly inferior to the UK variant. It's softer - unavoidable, admittedly, since NTSC has nearly 100 fewer lines of resolution than PAL, and in a film with a ratio this wide resolution is everything. However, it also has more visible compression artefacts. Initially, I thought that this was because two versions of the film were included on the same disc, but the widescreen version of the US edition actually has a higher overall bit rate than its UK counterpart! What's going on? Perhaps someone encoded the US version using Very Fast Mode. EL TRANSFER ZONA 1 ES INFERIOR AL ZONA 2 DE UK.
